Eco-societies in Denmark

Several places in Denmark you can experience eco-societies where the community makes an effort to live a sustainable life – ecologically, socially and culturally. In most cases, the communities are open to the public and you are welcome to stop by if you want to see and experience ecological living.


From the eco-society Fri and FroIf you want to see and experience eco-living put into practice, we suggest you stop by one of the growing numbers of experimental eco-societies in Denmark. You will among other things experience low-energy housing, innovative building solutions and use of building materials, willow plants for treatment of sewage water, composting plants and much more. Most eco-societies are open to the public, so just stop by and have a look. Many places also offer guided walks where a local show you around and tell you about the buildings and way of life in the community.
